A Day in the Life | Avalon at Grosvenor Station

Avalon at Grosvenor Station is a Luxury Apartment Community in North Bethesda offering the best in furnished corporate apartments just outside Washington DC.  The property features a state of the art fitness center, landscaped courtyards with barbecue areas, exercise trails, and outdoor pool with a sundeck.  But, more importantly, with Avalon at Grosvenor Station it’s all about Location, Location, Location.  Situated just off the beltway where 495 meets 270, the ease-of-access in and around the property makes it unique.  Within minutes you’re on a major interstate Highway, hopping on the Metro, or sneaking off into the seclusion of Rock Creek Park across the street.

Meet George.  George helped launch a new department in a consulting firm he has been with for 12 years now.  Although the new job comes with new responsibility (and income!), he’s also required to spend the next 6 months in a new town, Washington D.C.  Without knowing anything about the area and with no place to live, he reached out to the experts at Interim Homes to provide a recommendation based on his situation and provide him with Furnished Housing for the next 6 months.

So, George’s new gig starts January 1st.  He has known about it for a while, but procrastination got the best of him.  He frantically called Interim Homes to see what was available… and if by any chance they could do him a favor and get him moved-in within such a short period of time.

He quickly found out that Interim Homes had several choices available and he was surprised when Interim Homes wanted to learn a little more about him to make a proper recommendation.  George proceeds to tell them he still lives in Upstate New York with his wife and two kids (a 4 year old girl and 8 month old son).  Since, he’ll be travelling back home every few weeks it would be nice to have easy access to a major highway to avoid the notorious DC traffic.  Check.

His commute would be about 15 minutes during off hours, but he knows he’ll need to hit the Daily Grind with everyone else at peak hours, so having a Metro nearby would be nice.  Check.

George was scheduled to run in the New York Marathon this year, but it was postponed due to the Disaster of Superstorm Sandy.  Unfortunately, he was not able to run this year, but signed up for a Chicago Marathon in the Spring of 2013.  So, exercise and open areas would be a nice perk to make sure he stays in shape through the cold DC winters.   Check.

Finally, George knows that his family would also be spending a couple weeks on and off with him over the over the next 6 months.  So, he asked to price out a 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartment just in case.  Check.

Interim Homes knew right away that Avalon at Grosvenor Station would be a perfect fit!  It’s located just off 495 and 270 for easy access to sneak out of town.  The Grosvenor Red Line Metro Station is just a few blocks away.  Rock Creek Park offers several miles of running trails and their indoor fitness center has plenty of treadmills and equipment for those colder days!   And Interim Homes happily priced out all 3 options for the 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartment.

But, George’s biggest concern was the timing.  Can Interim Homes make all of this happen in just 3 weeks, including over the holiday season?  He was happily surprised to learn that they could move him in within a day or two if needed.  Although tempting, George figured it would be best to spend Christmas and New Years at Home with his family.  So, January 1st it is.

Welcome aboard, George!  We know you are going to enjoy your stay.

A Day in the Life | Arbors at Arundel Mills (PART II)

(PART II)
Saturday

9am: You get to sleep in on a Saturday.  No one is judging you!  But still need to get your coffee fix, so you head down to the Starbucks across the street.  While on line you decide to grab the paper and do the crossword puzzle.  It’s a crisp September morning and nothing sounds better than sitting out on your porch drinking your coffee and attempting the Saturday Crossword in the Washington Post.

10am:  Okay.  It’s time to start this day.  You shower up, tidy up the apartment, and get ready to see your friends again.  Good thing Interim Homes supplies all the towels, linens, bath accessories, and even a vacuum to clean up the mess of crumbs you made putzing about the kitchen last night eating leftovers.

12pm: Not sure about when/where dinner will happen, you realize you need to get a nice large meal in before heading out.  The good news is that you went to the Arbors’ Fitness Center 5 times this week each morning before work, so you decide to give yourself a cheat day.  You noticed the Five Guys Burger & Fries the other day and walk over.

2pm: Phew!.  That was delicious, but might have gone overboard with the Fries and your decision to upgrade to the ‘Bacon Burger.’ You have a couple hours to spend, so decide to grab a book and head downstairs to the garden and sit by the outdoor firepit.  Others tenants had the same idea, but luckily the Ardons has a ton of small gardens and private sitting areas throughout the property and you find a nice quite spot surrounded by trees and tall bushes.

5pm: You get a text message from your friend that simply says, “Casino Tonight???”

5:01pm: You reply with “Ohh Yea!” and head in to grab some cash out of the ATM

6pm: Knowing it will be a late night, you invite you friend over to check out the new apartment and decide to kick-back in the Arbors’ Pub Room on the main floor to shoot some pool and grab a drink.  A few more friends are planning to meet you there later in the evening.

8pm: Time to head over to Maryland Live! Casino.  It’s a 3 minute cab ride or 10 minute walk.  You guys decide to walk.

8:20pm: Somehow you’ve managed to win $50 already on their E-Table Games and excited about the way the night is headed.  The place is full of excitement, energy, and lights!  You guys find a spot perfectly situated between the slots, some e-table games, and about 30 TV’s playing all the College Football Games.  It’s going to be a good night!

12am: Exhausted, but you came out victorious!  Well, only by $100… but you’ll take it.  You cash out and head back home.  You’re asleep before you head hits the pillow.

Sunday

9am: There’s NFL today and you can’t sleep.  You get up early and hit the gym to work off that Bacon Double Cheeseburger that you’ve been regretting for the past 24 hours.

12:30pm: Finally, no more commitments, no more places to go, no more people to see. You head to your comfy couch, turn on your flat-screen TV, and settle in for a long day of watching football and relaxing.

A Day in the Life | Arbors at Arundel Mills (PART I)

Arbors at Arundel Mills is right around the corner from all the main attractions located in the DC-Baltimore Metro areas.  Luckily, it’s nestled far enough away from the city where you always find the peace-and-quiet of living in a suburban setting flush with trees, wildlife, and friendly people. It’s the perfect setting if you enjoy kicking back to relax, dining at amazing restaurants, and occasionally sneaking out to have some fun out on the town.

Let’s walk-though a Day-in-the-Life “Weekend Edition” of one of our Interim Homes Clients!

Friday

5pm: Whoo Hoo!  It’s the weekend. The longest possible time until more work!  It’s time to celebrate.  You head home, but decide to swing by Dave and Busters for a drink with you friends, a quick bite, and catch the beginning of the National’s Baseball Game (September Baseball is always the most exciting.)

8pm:  You make plans with your friends to meet up tomorrow evening and head out on the town for the night, so realizing it’s going to be a long weekend you decide to take it easy tonight.  On your walk home, past the Cinemark Egyptian 24 and XD Movie Theatre, you come across one of the most important decisions of your life: Slapstick Comedy ‘The Campaign’ starring Will Farrell and Zach Galifianakis… or the Highly Acclaimed ‘Dark Knight Rises’.  Scratching your head in front of the ticket booth, you decide that you need some reassurance.

8:30pm: You make a quick call to your friend that lives in your building and she says that all the Washington Post had a featured article about ‘Dark Knight Rises’ in today’s paper and she’s been meaning to see it.  Smelling an opportunity, you ask her if she’d like to join… and get a quick ‘YES!’ for an answer.

11pm:  Movie lets out and you walk your ‘date’ home, not before making plans for the following weekend and maybe even the Slapstick Comedy that you secretly wanted to see instead. Instead she points out that Medieval Times is right across the street and could be fun… you succumb to her suggestion.

11:30pm: Back at your Furnished Interim Homes Corporate Apartment, you reheat some leftovers in the microwave and catch the ending of that National’s game that has gone into extra innings.  Nat’s win, you hit the lights, and grab some sleep.  Long day tomorrow.

(… to be continued!)

Support Your Local Small Business!

Support of Small Businesses!
The second annual Small Business Saturday is coming up on November 26, 2011. This day is dedicated to supporting our neighborhood small businesses. On what stands to be one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, shoppers are encouraged to step away from the large chains and support the small vendors that are so vital to our local, state, and national economy. What a wonderful way to kick-start the holiday season!

Supporting small businesses, however, should be more than just a seasonal event. Small businesses in all professions and industries are a stabilizing force in the economy. By seeking out companies that are certified small businesses, buyers can be assured that their dollars are stimulating economic growth. The US Department of Commerce has provided some important facts about small businesses:

• Small businesses represent 99.7% of all employer firms
• Small businesses employ just over half of all private sector employees
• Small businesses pay 44% of total US private payroll

Given these statistics, why not choose to spend your money wisely and seek out to support small businesses whenever possible? From the quaint clothing boutique to the neighborhood plumber to the start-up IT company, buyers can make a conscious decision to contribute to the success and growth of our economy.

Interim Homes is a certified small, woman-owned business that provides short-term corporate housing throughout Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, and Delaware
